1776 Continental Curency - want to know if it's REAL or FAKE?

7 posts in this topic

Hello, I recently received a Continental Curency Coin from my grandmother who was cleaning out her house. She thought it looked cool so passed it on to me! I didn't realize the significance of it until doing some online research. I am very knew to the coin collecting game. Anyways, I have attached some pictures, can anyone help verify whether or not it's authentic?? Thank you so much.

In the pic showing the edge you can see the seam showing that it's been cast using two mold halves. The real coins were struck by two dies and don't have this seam. Also, the rough texture is a dead give away. These were made to be sold as souvenirs at popular historic tourist sites and were not intended to fool coin collectors.
