Does anyone live near Reno, NV?

20 posts in this topic

I'm going to be there for the American CueSports "Nationals" from April 27 - May 8. It would be nice to meet someone from these boards out there.

A close friend told me of a place that has a quarter slot that pays out silver dollars. Who knows, maybe I'll find one of Fitzgerald's old warehouses to buy.

Chris, I'm half way between Las Vegas and Reno. But Reno is 240 miles away. Are you flying.

Well, anyway, the point is mute since I'll do my best to avoid ya! Man, that Chris guy is trouble! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Fly? No, where I live in South Florida is on the Gulf of Mexico. I thought I'd just swim over to Galveston or thereabout. From there I'll take a little jog through West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona (Ouch!! Damned cactus!) on up to Las Vegas. Then, I'll see if I can't hire one of the NASCAR drivers at the track to take me up Rte. 95 to a point well past Hawthorne. I just don't like the thought of slowly passing the Nellis AFB Bombing Range and the Army Munitions Plant. Also, the folks in the Tonopah area are wierd! I guess the prevailing winds must have come out of the southeast across the old nuclear test range far too long to have not affected everyone. Anyway, from there it will be an easy trek to Sparks and Reno.

I expect that I will get to the Circus Circus desk just about the time that my cues arrive. They are being shipped by FedEx Air.

Avoid me? Trouble? Why? I didn't say that I would challenge anyone to a session of 9-Ball, One Pocket or 3-Cushion Billiards. It would be fruitless for any of you because I'd win.

No, I just thought it might be nice to meet some of the other whackos from the boards. 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif

You know, I had a realization yesterday that there isn't even one single traffic light in Tonopah. foreheadslap.gif Kind of odd since it is the county seat of Nye County.

p.s. Great post and funny, too! sign-funnypost.gif

p.p.s. Let me know once you've mastered counting above nine and we could play a little eight ball. makepoint.gif

Nine-ball is an awesome game, though!!!

How the heck did you end up in Tonapah, EZ? I spent a night there last year on the way from Vegas to Reno. I wouldn't have guessed there was a hospital. wink.gif

Later in May, I'll get to see the sights of Gardnerville, Smith, Topaz, and some other place that starts with a Y. insane.gif

Well, I spent most of my life in Las Vegas and my daughter still lives there, so when this assignment became available I jumped at the opportunity. I've been here for six months now and am about to sign another 13 week contract. I'll probably milk this assignment out for awhile.

Yeah, I've driven the road from Vegas to Reno many times in the past. I actually remember passing through and seeing the hospital here and thought to myself, "Man, who would ever want to live here?" But, as it is, I like it a whole lot. The downside is that one has to drive to either Reno or Vegas or even Bishop, CA to do any shopping although there is a grocery store here. The drive to Vegas is much easier than the drive to Reno.

Old Farts?! Uh, excuse uh me uh I have to uh go change uh my pants. I uh forgot to uh put the uh lid back on uh my uh Geritol bottle before I uh put it in my uh pants pocket and uh laid down in uh my uh hospital bed.

Traffic light? Why would they need one when there is only one car, 39 mustangs and 3,000 mules in town. Oh, that's right, I forgot about the speed trap.

a little 8-ball? My math skills have no bearing on the matter. Let's see? Nine minus one still means you'll lose .

If you don't mind my getting serious for a millisecond, One Pocket is my favorite game. I've been playing it since 1963. It's like a chess game played on a pool table. All of the "moves".....strategies, tactics, gambits, offense & defense....takes years to learn.

I like Nevada! Even Winnemucca! The only thing it's lacking is us old farts, and I'm sure you don't mind that.

Keep us posted on your post-operative progress.

The only casino I know of in Reno that has slot machines paying out silver dollars is the Cal-Neva. And they are $1 slots.

TJ , perhaps that's what she meant. Do you know of any other "goodies" in Reno? I remember the old Alibi Lounge and DelMar Station, but I think they're gone.

And about a dozen cops or more. Really.

p.s. 3-ball is a great game!

p.s. 3-ball is a great game!

Under the right conditions, a good player can make all 3 balls on the break. However, since 3-Ball is strictly a gambling game the good player doesn't try to make them too often because everyone will quit. Instead, they will try to make just one or, as the need arises, two on the break. Just enough to win without drawing suspicion. One of the typical breaks to make all three has one of the back balls going 4 rails into a lower corner pocket, the other back ball going 3 rails into the opposite side pocket and the head ball banking off the side rail to the opposite side pocket. Similar knowledge can be applied to 8-Ball, 9-Ball, One Pocket and Straight Pool.

At one of the local poolrooms, here, I got into a 3-Ball game with some of the regulars. One of the players made all of the balls in 2 shots. When it came to be my turn, I broke and made all 3. I did my best to try to convince them that I had never done it before (I lied!) , but they haven't let me play with them since. That was 5 years ago, and I still see them playing there from time to time.

I had a realization yesterday that there isn't even one single traffic light in Tonopah.

Up until now, was there simply too much mescaline in your diet to notice? insane.gif893whatthe.gif

wink.gif

Kind of odd since it is the county seat of Nye County.[/i]

27_laughing.gif And you might have thought that the seat of iniquity (Pahrump) or the most fissile town in the U.S. (Mercury) might have been? makepoint.gif

Uh, Hoot, what the heck does fissile mean?

You do have a great point though, Hoot. These are all very unique towns not encountered too often in the US.

The best that I've ever done, Chris, is two shots in three ball. I haven't played much pool though for a very long time.

Two shots, or even three, will still win a lot of games.

Actually, the first time that I drove to Bishop, I found the drive very interesting. Shortly after one turns off of 95, a large lava field is seen with some pretty cool rocks. Then, at the NV/california border is the highest point in Nevada off to the left. Since I've spent a large part of my life in Nevada, I found these places interesting, the first time. Now, afterwards, is a different story.

It's just long enough that we look forward to coming home. Once we stayed in Vegas 24 days for, both, Billiard Congress of America and Valley National 8-Ball Association National Championships. That was too long. That was the year that I missed a 6 million dollar Super Megabucks by one click at the Riviera. I got the mini-progressive instead.

I'll be playing in the 8-Ball and 9-Ball Singles tournaments.

"Geez, I don't know why I keep responding...."

Everyone has their own little peculiarities. As for me, I like your dog on your lap!
