Best time to send coins in for grading ???

5 posts in this topic

Is there a time/season of the year when turnaround times are at their lowest ?

Is this time of the year good ? People are buying gifts and not getting coins graded ? No major shows going on ?

What has been your experience ?

Summertime is generally regarded as slower in teh coin business, so I would expect lower submissions. In my experience, summer through early fall is usually the fastest. Late fall through spring are traditionally the busy season for the coin hobby, and will probably have more submissions, and thus longer times.

It might be easier to think about times that are BAD times to send in coins. January through mid Feb dues to the flood of ASE being sent in for first strike/early release designations and submissions after the FUN show. The two weeks after the Long Beach, Baltimore and ANA Shows. The two week period after any hot instant sellout of an item from the US Mint starts being delivered. Any of these times results in the TPG's getting flooded with submissions and bulk submissions looking for quick grades for flipping.

For the best grades at major shows where they are grading on site, usually early on when the word is getting out that dealers are finally getting the grades they had been trying for, for quite a while. But those narrow windows of optimal grading results can close quickly. lol
