Would they grade above XF

3 posts in this topic

Both pieces are have better than the sharpness of an EF graded Indian Cent, but at least one of them has issues.

The 1904 has damage or a mint caused lamination on the Indian's cheek. If it is damge, the coin is a no grade. If it is a lamination, it is a mint error. As such that might be worth grading although the market for such items seems limited, at least to me. If the coin is marked as lamination mint error, it would probably be worth more than the grading fee, but selling it could take time.

The 1905 has the sharpness of an AU. It also has some spots, and may have been cleaned and recolored at some point. At any rate it is not nice enough to spent the money to get professionally graded.
