Will NGC customize label text for me?

I highly doubt it, but you should ask them instead of us

I posted to "Ask NGC" some time ago, but it did not show up, even after an expected moderation period -- posts from others newer than mine have shown up.

I thought I'd ask here and see if others have done this.

Yeah, I was hoping they would be able to pedigree a large group of gold coins we have, from the "Saddle Ridge Ranch" hoard. Any similarity to the other hoard would be purely coincidental, but increased saleability would be great.

Yes, if you pay them enough money they'll put a so-called "pedigree" line on there. They (usually) won't change the standard text and formatting, they'll just add an extra line with your name/pedigree/collection/whatever.

Note: they won't put a famous pedigree on there unless you can prove that it was actually from that collection. Usually, a photograph of the coin in the auction catalogue is required. So, for example, you can't go slabbing spurious Saddle Ridge coins without proof (not that this fairy tale is actually deserving of a premium, but that's another discussion).

Doesn't sound like he has Saddle Ridge hoard coins to me. Sound more like he wants to add a "pedigree" that sounds like it in order to get added exposure and possibly premium prices from buyers who don't realize they aren't Saddle Ridge hoard coins.

Well, I don't have any Saddle Ridge coins, nor am I interested in putting on some kind of pedigree.

My reasons are much more mundane.

For example, consider the label in this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371339420105

Abbreviating "Constitution" in this manner just looks terrible. Rather than this:

1987 W CONSTITUT $5

PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO

I would rather have NGC label it:

1987 W $5

CONSTITUTION

PF 70 ULTRA CAMEO

Three lines instead of two allows plenty of space to include the full word. They do this for some commemoratives; for example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400800282279

A consistent formatting would make for a more attractive presentation. Yes, I'm OCD that way.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that NGC is now starting the lettering on the far left of the insert. If this is true, I suppose you could resubmit the coin for slabbing with the new orientation.

You might want to post this question on "Ask NGC" to be sure.

This is real American Kapitalizm -- you got to pay for ALL the letters and punctuation!

You also have to pay for the spaces between the letters, or you will end up with one long, incomprehensible word. I would not be surprised if the spaces command a small premium.
