What is this?

I'm baffled.

Was the coin struck through a bit of yarn?

Is it an issue with the die?

Is it just scratched up?

It does not appear to be a die issue, but the picture is too small to tell whether it is a:

1) series of scratches or other damage

2) lint strike-thru error

3) planchet lamination error

4) planchet defect

Slab says nothing but a pedigree. Does this significantly increase the value of the coin if it's currently like $100?

No. It's too minor. For some it would make it less desirable.

It resembles the ancient monstrosity known to some as Cthulhu. Not a friendly sort, at all. Or it has been struck through a fragment of rag, as has been suggested.

You might consider burying it in the basement beneath a good five feet or so of concrete. Just to be on the safe side.

There are many mint problems that add nothing in value and as Bill has pointed out can easily cause the coin to lose potential customers.

The same goes for "lamination" error; rarely does it add anything to a coin's value.

If so, the snails, which are obviously not your usual, run-of-the-garden variety, are disciples of Cthulhu. In the darkest corners of Dunwich’s crumbling taverns it has been rumored in whispers that Cthulhu enjoys a good slime bath whenever his evil-doings allow.

What we are witnessing here is the result of such an unholy cleansing - the outline of Cthulhu etched into the silver of the coin by the corrosive slime emitted from his disciples’ pulsating and dripping glands!

Or what Capt.Henway said.

I would agree that it is too minor to list, and somewhat distracting as a result. The clear pictures make it look like it was struck thru steel wool.
