1969 S Lincoln Cent Doubling

5 posts in this topic

I have here a 1969 S Lincoln Cent that appears to have some shift or doubling in the date and mint mark. There appears to be no additional doubling in the Liberty or in the Motto. No additional doubling on the reverse either. Is this a variation of the DDO variety?

This date is known for showing some nice machine doubling damage, which at a glance, can fool the casual observer looking for the real DDO. It's actually shown in the back of the Cherrypicker's Guide as a reference.

I agree with the above assessment. I will also add that Machine Doubling as stated above with have squared off doubling, also referred to as shelflike. True doubling will have the same contour as the regular date due to being pressed by the hub twice.

Keep looking though, a man found one in change not two years ago and I believe it sold for more than 30k.
