Complete Set of United States Gold Coins: An Analysis of Auction Records by David W. Akers. Volumes I-VI (Gold Dollars through Double Eagles).

A truly superb date-by-date evaluation of the entirety of United States circulation gold issues. Though their titles may suggest a mere condition census and/or price analysis, these books are far more. Of particular value is Akers' “Comment” section, where he discusses various characteristics for each date, gleaned from his extraordinary research and experience. These comments are composed of statements concerning various combinations of the following: rarity in all of its variations (conditional, relative, marketplace, etc.), strike characteristics, major varieties and more.

The boards display moderate shelfwear/scuffing but the books are internally clean and tightly bound. Despite signs of handling, they are not at all unattractive and will well serve your reference needs. Scarce, especially as a complete set, and always in demand. - $225. Now $210.

The Garrett Collection. Parts I through IV. Bowers and Ruddy. Deluxe Hard Bound Editions

Part I, November 28-29, 1979. 153pp. 622 lots

Part II, March 26-27, 1980. 193pp. 1195 lots

Part III, October 1-2, 1980. 157pp. 1692 lots

Part IV, March 25-26, 1981. 180pp. 661 lots

Lovely black binding with gilt lettering. Prices realized bound in. Each is in excellent condition, both internally and externally. Pages are clean, white, and mark-free. Aesthetically superior and far more durable than their soft-bound counterparts, these catalogs are the ideal way to enjoy what is perhaps the most legendary numismatic auction in American history. - $125. Now $110

The United States Gold Coin Collection (Eliasberg). Bowers and Ruddy Galeries. October 27-29, 1982. Special Deluxe Edition.

Lovely blue leatherette, with inset photo of High Relief 1907 St. Gaudens Double Eagle, on deep red background. With gold borders and gilt lettering. Slight discoloration and very gentle waviness are present at the edges of the pages. Neither of these extend into the pages once opened. Internally excellent, tightly bound, with bright white, unmarked pages. A wonderful presentation of the stupendous and famously complete Eliasberg Gold Collection. - $125. Now $110.

The Dr. Thaine B. Price Collection. May 19, 1998. David Akers. 120 pages. 213 lots. – Bound in blue leatherette with gilt lettering. Like new condition. A special bookplate attached to front pastedown indicating date of sale, with signatures of Dr. Thaine B. Price, David W. Akers, and Thomas A. Mulvaney. Number 79 of 250. The bookplate is loose but present, as is often the case (this can be easily re-affixed if the buyer should choose to do so). - $75. Now reduced to $69.

From the Experts at PCGS: “Dr. Thaine B. Price collected coins for over two decades. His goal was to assemble the finest possible set of 20th Century gold series, i.e. the four series minted from 1908 to 1933. Dr. Price had a great eye for quality and he was assisted in his pursuit by one of the top experts/dealers in the field, David Akers. Dr. Price also decided to put together the finest possible set of circulation strike Barber half dollars, and he also built a nearly complete set of Gem proof Barber halves. When David Akers auctioned the Price collection in 1998, it was one of the major events of the year, even though the auction only had 213 coins.

The Price collection of $5 Indians was spectacular, perhaps the best ever assembled. The set featured many Gems and Superb Gems, including some "finest known" specimens. The key 1909-O was the Eliasberg coin and it brought a mind-boggling $374,000 at the 1998 Price sale. The rare 1910-S was also the Eliasberg coin. The key 1913-S was a spectacular MS66 and it brought $110,000 at the Price sale. The 1915-S was a gorgeous MS65 and it brought $66,000 at the Price sale.”

are you interested in breaking up the set? I collect only half eagles, used to have the Aker's set but sold off my numismatic library about a decade ago before I started collecting half eagles and now I wouldn't mind having it back for reference. You can reach me privately at cpp67625@centurytel.net if intrested. Thank you.

Thank you for your interest LuckyOne, email sent.

For all interested, the set of Akers U.S. Gold books is being offered as a set, at this time. If however, you are only interested in a single volume, please let me know. I will gladly keep you in mind, should I begin to break the set up.

Best,

Jesse
