Early Late Die State? no "FG" 1966 SMS Kennedy or Should I Say No "F"

3 posts in this topic

Cherry picked a 1966 SMS set at my local dealer today. Got excited when I noticed the flat nose bridge on the obverse a sure sign of a possible late die stage FS-901 no "FG" Kennedy. I was super excited when I turned it around and the initials appeared to be missing. However on closer look I noticed the G was still there but almost gone.

Given that the nose diagnosis is there, is this still a FS-901 and would NGC or PCGS still attribute the coin as such?

NGC will not attribute coins having any remnant of the initials. Ditto for WL50c pieces having a partial AW monogram.
