NGC Holder Question

9 posts in this topic

Please see the photos of the Fattie holder with the PNG added to the hologram on the back side of the holder. I could find where NGC started using this holder in 2004, but I could not find an end date. It appears that this is the last holder used before the transition to NGC's current style edge view holder. Dose anyone know the end date of PNG hologram Fattie holder and the start date of the current edge view holder?

Conder101 put together an extensive holder generation listing that includes all generations and most important dates for both NGC and PCGS generations. I'd suggest Googling NGC Holder Generations to find the necessary info.

I did find where the NGC edgeview holder started in September 2008. Did the holder in the photo go from 2004 to 2008?

I believe that holder did end in 2008 when the edge-view went mainstream.

I did find what appears to be a fattie transition holder to the edgeview holder. This fattie holder has the current edgeview label and a similar hologram.

A full ring (non-edgeview) holder is still used for certain issues, and upon request, so this is not a transitional holder.

Also, this is not a "fatty" slab. Those were fatter than current slabs and only used until about the early 1990s.

That slab did last through 2008. That style was the one in use when the first fake NGC slabs appeared. They did plan on changing the hologram in Feb 2008 but ther new hologram had a misspelling in it so the scrapped it and that hologram remained in use through the reintroduction of the edgeview slab. (Reintroduction because the edgeview first appeared back in 2002, but NGC claimed it was something new when they brought it back in 2008.) And there are at lest two generations of edgeview holder since 2008.
