Are the "Langbord 10" 1933 $20's in NGC slabs?

18 posts in this topic

ATS the question has been raised as to whether or not the "Langbord 10" 1933 $20's are in NGC slabs or not. I thought that they were, but I may be wrong. Does anybody know for sure?

I do not know for sure but I do recall reading that they were sent to NGC for encapsulation.

Let me see if I can find where I read that.............

I found this thread on the Coin Talk Forums posted by Mark Feld.

NGC Article

However, the linked article in that thread is not available but I trust that when Mark posted it, it was.

Here's a thread off of the PCGS Forums that contains some quotes with a reference to the "Nov. 17th issue of the Numismatic News on page 18"

Another PCGS Thread

I do not expect that ALL of the folks which apparently read the linked article (which now does not exist) are completely crazy.

So, YES, the historically published evidence says that NGC Graded the coins.

I have seen images of the MS66 in a NGC slab before. Whether the others are in NGC slabs (I would assume so) or whether the coins are still in those slabs, I don't know.

P.S. I did a quick Google image search and found this in an old Coin Week article. I believe it also appeared in Coin World at one point:

Thanks!

I never thought of doing this!

I just checked the cert #'s on both sides - 061 & 063 - and there is no listing.

It is interesting that NGC had an article on their website about grading the coins but then pulled the article the very next day. I wonder what that is all about.

The real question that should be asked is whether the coins have been CAC'd. Otherwise, no one will buy them in NGC holders.

I believe they graded them and put them in holders but I'm not sure if they sealed the holders. Kind if like how they holdered the National Numismatic Collection but didn't seal the holders so the coins can still be removed for study and display.

If you go across the street and read the old thread from 2009 whose title begins with WOW and read back a few pages you will see discussion as to why the article was pulled.
