Resubmissions/Attributions

2 posts in this topic

I have several questions regarding attributions and resubmissions:

1. If you submit a coin for ReGrade that already has a variety/error attribution on the label and the coin upgrades, does the current variety/error attribution automatically convey to the new label without either specifying the attribution on the order or paying an additional attribution fee?

2. In the event that you have an NGC holdered details coin that you think is market acceptable and should have graded, can you resubmit it slabbed for ReGrade, and if so, is the label completely obscured so as to ensure an impartial regrade, or is it better to resubmit raw in this scenario?

3. If you submit an unattributed NGC holdered coin and only want the variety attribution added, is it sufficient to just select VarietyPlus by itself on the line item to have the coin also reholdered in an EdgeView holder? If it does not work like this, do you always need to select ReHolder with Variety Attribution if you are not also specifying a grading tier (in which case it would get a SRH)?

4. Regarding the answer for question 3 above, I'm assuming the coin would not be regraded in that scenario, only attributed and reholdered with the existing grade, correct?

5. Can you request both a variety attribution and an error attribution on the same coin? If so, does the variety attribution proceed the error attribution on the label?

6. Are grades on error coins considered to be normal grades for registry set purposes? If not, are there exceptions? For example a coin may have an attributable error like a partial collar that would not preclude the coin receiving a straight grade.

Thanks

Thank you for your questions. You will find answers below in blue:

1. If you submit a coin for ReGrade that already has a variety/error attribution on the label and the coin upgrades, does the current variety/error attribution automatically convey to the new label without either specifying the attribution on the order or paying an additional attribution fee? Yes, the variety or error attribution is still included on the label at no additional cost.

2. In the event that you have an NGC holdered details coin that you think is market acceptable and should have graded, can you resubmit it slabbed for ReGrade, and if so, is the label completely obscured so as to ensure an impartial regrade, or is it better to resubmit raw in this scenario? When coins are sent Re-Grade they are removed from the holder when they are received at NGC. The graders see the coin in a flip. The coin will receive a new certification number just as if it had been sent in raw for grading. We do not recommend removing the coin from the holder prior to sending it in as this would nullify the existing guarantee on the coin.

3. If you submit an unattributed NGC holdered coin and only want the variety attribution added, is it sufficient to just select VarietyPlus by itself on the line item to have the coin also reholdered in an EdgeView holder? If it does not work like this, do you always need to select ReHolder with Variety Attribution if you are not also specifying a grading tier (in which case it would get a SRH)?It is not necessary to select both VarietyPlus and ReHolder. NGC holdered coins sent for Variety Plus will automatically get the scratch resistant edge view holder.

4. Regarding the answer for question 3 above, I'm assuming the coin would not be regraded in that scenario, only attributed and reholdered with the existing grade, correct? That is correct. The coin would not be regraded.

5. Can you request both a variety attribution and an error attribution on the same coin? If so, does the variety attribution proceed the error attribution on the label? You may request both. The order is which the variety and error are included on the label will depend on the specific attributions.

6. Are grades on error coins considered to be normal grades for registry set purposes? If not, are there exceptions? For example a coin may have an attributable error like a partial collar that would not preclude the coin receiving a straight grade. In general, mint errors are not currently eligible for competitive registry sets.
