of this type 1 California fractional that actually was struck, issued and circulated in the san Francisco bay area?

the coin is lusterous with close to a prooflike obverse and slight semi prooflike reverse with deep golden orange coloration

MS65

I can't believe I am saying that but although crude looking, I don't think that has passed through many hands at all.

I don't have a clue about these but you say it's real (and not made of PlayDoh), as it appears it looks like a mint state coin. I'd say MS 63 ish.

Man, that's either a great piece of privately made history or a D - in forgery class.

Really have no idea, but why not sling one out there. Looking at the bust side of the coin I think I see areas of potential slight rubs from color changes, without it in hand its really hard to tell. However, up at the hair curl top of forehead, top curl area back of the head and down the back of the head look like spots of potential slight rubs opposed to strike weakness. Also curls at the bottom of the neck line along with the star below the neck. The other side with the date which I will assume is the obverse I really see no rubs other than the weak mushy strike. So I will call the coin a slider AU55 - MS62.

I'd say that it is a Mint State coin although I hesitate to put a number on it byond MS-63. You have know the variety to know how much to discount it for strike.

coin is in a very old pcgs holder graded around 1990 and it is really choice with no hairlines and never dipped

since I have seen it in hand I grade it ms65 along with two top specialists in this series as in hand it is striking with some prooflike surfaces and booming lustre not captured too well in the photo

but the holder says ms63 and I think it is woefully undergraded

thanks for all the great responses you guys are really good

I could see this easily on regrade as some gem grade but since the owner likes the older holder it is left alone as is were is in fact these really older holders have quite a following and it is growing as strange as it sounds
