List of Newman's Fugio obverse and reverse die varieties?

8 posts in this topic

Is there an online resource for Newman's Fugio obverse and reverse die varieties? Ideally it would include pictures (or at least descriptions) of the varieties and maybe estimated pieces per variety. I see that these might have been published as a book, but the cheapest used on Amazon is $70 from a third party seller, and all that I can see is the title, not a preview so I don't even know if the book is what I'm looking for.

Any direction or links to resources would be appreciated.

pardon my ignorance but what would the name of this so called book be. many thanks

The 1776 Continental Currency Coinage: Varieties Of The Fugio Cent by Eric P. Newman (direct link to the book on Amazon)

$20 for a 24 page reprinted book seems a bit steep! Is it printed on Egyptian parchment? ;)

The most recent is actually Newman's The United States Fugio Copper Coins of 1787, from around 2008 or so. It should be available through Charlie Davis. For a briefer look, QDB's Whitman Colonial Encyclopedia (not the exact title) also has descriptions for all the varieties.

The one linked to on Amazon is a 2012 reprint of the booklet Wayte Raymond printed in 1952. The $70 one on Amazon is a 2005 reprint of the same booklet

Charlie Davis does have copies of the latest edition (NOT a reprint of the booklet), but they are $150.
