Would a 1979 Canadian gold maple leaf be a coin to sent in to be graded as it was the first year of issue ? Or is that just bullion as well?

I would recommend doing a search for the selling (not the asking) price of graded examples - that should answer your question.

Looks like just bullion according to the NGC World Coin Price Guide.

At a mintage of 1 million on that first year there may or may not be collector demand for Superb Gem graded examples but you would need to look at eBay past sales and Heritage Auctions to see unless someone else that collects them decides to chime in and knows better.

There are many people who collect graded bullion. It really depends on what condition your Gold Maple Leaf is in as to whether it's worth getting graded.

I'd try to find out the fair market value for graded pieces and then try to determine the possible grade of your coin. That might help determine whether it's worth getting graded.

For U.S. Bullion, there's typically not much of a premium over PM unless it's graded MS/PF 70.
