Homade coin chest

I put this together last weekend from a 1"x10"x8' piece of walnut my son gave me for my birthday. Thank God for the snow it kept me in the house to work on it when I was not shovleling

That's absolutely beautiful woodwork! How did you line the drawers - i.e. is it flocking or did you make velvet covered padded inserts of some sort? It appears you've been watching Norm Abram for quite awhile...

The inserts are from Airtite of Dalton Ma. They are velvetcovered foam cut out for the type holder you want

That's even cooler than I anticipated. I couldn't tell from the photo, but I gather you're saying that the inserts have separate indentations in them in which the holders fit? Would that mean you started with the Airtites and worked up from there to determine the overall dimensions of the drawers and chest?

 

I love woodworking (but don't get much chance to do it at present). An 8' long piece of walnut is a real prize.

Yes, I built the draws around the foam inserts and the chest around the draws. Kind of backwards but pretty cool none the less
