Nutmeg Coin
Good article: http://news.coinupdate.com/crossover-luck-with-old-anacs-slabs-4595/ But in the group of ANACS old holder coins, he did not crack them out or mark the invoice "grade as raw" of which I have heard the success rates can be bigger. NGC does not accept non-PCGS coins on their "crossover" tier.
123cents
I have had good success crossing over ANACS small white holder coins and the older ICG holder coins with the serial numbers on the obverse.
Afterword
I have only cracked out one ANACS coin. It was an MS63 1921 Peace Dollar in a yellow holder. NGC graded it MS64. I made a note of the crossover in my inventory ledger.
Nutmeg Coin
This coin was in an Anacs OH as MS63: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1878-CC-1-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-MS64-ICG-/331333497978?rd=1 I am sure PCGS and NGC would have graded it MS64 too, like ICG. Unfortunately unless a coin is in the right holder, you are not going to get top dollar.
messydesk
Success in crossover or crackouts is predicated on knowing how to grade the coins, regardless of which holder you go from or to. The luck involved is in running across the coins you know will cross or upgrade. Good article, although he should have put quotes around the word "luck" in the title.
