You guys are funny... a little Internet porn and everyone is acting as though the forum has been overrun by Ebola.

Just get a Mac and you never have to worry about viruses....

It's a great opportunity to utilize this site's ignore feature. While I use this for the FEW idddiott members here, it's also helpful to weed out the spammers!

Porn is one thing; viruses are another. I just had to spend several hundred dollars to get my main computer fixed as a result of a disabling virus.

As for the Mac, I have an iPad, and yes it's mostly safe for now, but don't bet that it will stay that way.

Macs are safe for now, but the hackers/virus spreaders do it for glory. They haven't been the target, yet. I wouldn't be so cavalier about viruses.

Bill is right, each quarter, Mac market share is expanding in PC and portables. Mac-o-philes will be a strong target in the not too distant future. However, most of the world still runs on microsoft even if the US market share is going up.

Best, HT

I'm glad you think it's funny, but since I'm drawing Social Insecurity with very limited means, why don't you buy me a new computer? While you're at it, I need a new car, too!

I find it ironic and a bit amusing, that in accusing forum members of getting carried away, you used hyperbole.

Bang away but Ive heard the "ole you Mac guys just wait it will be your turn someday..." mantra for years. Still hasnt happened... probably because most of the virus creators are already Mac people... lol

But once you've lost enough information and have spent too much time cleaning out an old PC you might change your mind.

Good luck.

I like Macs and predominantly use Apple products, but this is simply not true. In 2012, malware affected 500,000 Macs. There is currently a Mac virus going around. So while I agree that Apple computers are more resistant to viruses and Trojans, the computers are not immune.

Are you honestly surprised Jon? I'm shocked that you were expecting more from him. If I actually cared to go through all of his postings, I could probably count on one hand the number of posts he has made that did not contain grandiose statements/hyperbole or him otherwise just being a butt.

Thanks to the OP for the warning...90% (if not all) viruses can be avoided if you are careful where you click your mouse so thanks for the post.

I participate on a couple of flame boards (yes its not just for the under 20 crowd) but I wont take out the heavy meme guns on these two - it appears their panties get in a bunch way too quickly... lol

But I thought it could/would NEVER happen to Mac's. It's a law!

BTW, I learned how to use a computer on a Mac. Damn thing froze all the time. I was constantly saving my work so as not to lose it. I know it's not the case anymore, but at the time, it was extremely aggravating.

Surf with FireFox and turn off javascript. It's near-impossible to accidentally pick up a virus that way, and most of the NGC Boards functionality works adequately.

But JavaScript is a significant portion of many legitimate sites including numismatic sites.

check out NoScript, which allows you to permit JavaScript when you want to, or permanently on trusted sites. I strongly recommend subscribing to Krebsonsecurity, Brian Krebs' blog which will really open your eyes about online scamming (and learn ways to prevent becoming a victim). His book Spam Nation just came out and is very informative about the people perpetrating cybercrime and their methods.

Exactly what I have been doing for several years. Firefox is much more secure and javascript has constant security issues. Use Firefox/Mozilla disable javascript and have a good firewall/antivirus program and you won't get those nasty malware/virus attacks.

Yes, so you can simply toggle JS back "on" while surfing sites you know and trust.

Google allows selective use of Javascript, and posts an icon when a site wants Java but can't get it. (I wonder if this works on a Starbucks site? Maybe they have decaf Java?)
