Whats the best deal you've gotten on a purchase?

DW,

Just a heads up, RWB is one of the most well know and respected numismatists out there... I'm sure he was just having a little fun.

I bought a 1956 Proof set last year for $50 with a type 1 half inside.

I bought the Mercury Dime that was the subject of a GTG about 2 weeks ago. It was an MS 67 FSB coin valued at $700 that I paid way less for raw.

Spend a dollar on something free... I don't follow, this only leads me to doubt you have any coins to post on this thread.

"I'm sure he was just having a little fun"

Yep -- just an obvious suggestion that you crop your photos before posting. It makes them much easier to view and ties your presentation together better than in your OP.

PS: If I were to post a "$1 coin" it would be the 1893-S Morgan I got for face value at a bank long, long ago. It's a nice, honest VG coin...nothing more. And, yes, it is in an authentication slab from PCGS.

Reminds me of the guy who found a "poor man's" '55 double die and got very excited because he thought he had something rare and desirable. Imgur and photobucket are relatively easy to work with. Still my images are usually too big, and I do edit when it is clear they need that. Otherwise you just post an external link to an image.

Whats the best deal you've ever gotten for a coin?

for 1 dollar

part of a mint set for 20 dollars

What are the coins worth approximately?

I would say at least 40 and 120 if it were being auctioned by a toned coin specialist. I think they're keepers though

FREE (found under a pedestal sink installed circa 1928 along with a second half eagle)... NGC gave this one MS-64 :)

Okay so its not technically a "purchase" but its still a great deal!

It must have been nice to have been collecting when Morgans were still circulating.

Danye, RWB is simply pointing out that if you review and revise your post, you could have eliminated the large gaps between pictures. If I may venture an interpretation, RWB's dollar comment means to spend a little effort to review and edit your postings and that the effort to do so is not very costly. JMHO

Interesting. I've had no issues with photobucket downloads. You may want to look at your initial photobucket images and see if you may need to edit the original image.

I have found that sometimes you have to do some editing on the photobucket images before you get an image that you want to post. It's something that you just have to play with. But you can always adjust the images in photobucket to the images you want to post in the forum.

Photobucket

you need a program like irfanview to crop/resize

and you also need to set your camera for size

an example would be 600x800 pixels

year set for $8

Well, yes and no. Nice to have all the coins around but not nice to only have $3 a week (max) in lawn-mowing money available. About once a month, the local bank would allow me to search through their silver dollars for coins I wanted. But the 1893-S was just a chance purchase near the end of the silver dollar run in 1964.

I'll play:

Last year, my best deal was a 1932 China $1 that I paid melt for (around $20) that ended up in an NGC MS62 holder.

This year, so far it's between two coins I just got grades for (I used my free submissions coupon, so even better of a deal):

1941 D Jefferson Nickel ($1 at a local flea market)

(MS67 6FS, Top Pop)

1941DJeffersonNickel3_zps03579a1c.jpg

1946 S/S/S/S DDR Roosevelt Dime ($1.50 at a local coin shop)

(MS67FT, Top Pop, one of 4)

Great deals are out there...just takes patience, timing, and bit of experience. A great loupe and PDF copies of the reference manuals don't hurt, either.

I noticed no one wants to touch upon the guesstimate on these coins. I think $120 is wishful thinking.

Let me just start by saying this: absolutely no offense meant - just being straightforward.

I would think these coins would need two things to reach anything over $2:

*Excellent photos from multiple angles to highlight the toning. I can see it's there, but in these shots it's hard to tell if it's colorful (desirable) toning or just darkness (Ha ha Charlie Murphy...) Side note: I have tickets to see Dave Chappelle in STL on Nov 2.

*I think they might need to be slabbed, and then be slabbed at high grades to bring significant money.

This being said, they could be spectacular coins. But it's hard to tell from what we can see. Plus, they are very common dates and I quite often see great toning on coins just like these...so, like I said...high grades, great photos to highlight the toning. Which a toning expert would do.

WITH ALL I JUST SAID: there is no substitute for YOUR enjoyment of these coins. If you are excited about them, to me, that's completely worth the money you spent on them. Keep looking for more!
