Could you explain a little more about how the doubled die reverse originated?

So the misalignment was along the 5-11 o'clock axis?

Ok, caught me unprepared too answer that. Not sure if it is from 5-11 o'clock or 6-12 o'clock. It describes it as a shift too the north or vertical.

The "N" in ONE shows almost no doubling on the two upright strokes, so the offset axis must lie along a line roughly parallel to those. The puzzle is that "UNUM" suggests a 6-12 o'clock offset.
