GRADING OPINIONS? 1937D BUFFALO 3-LEG 5C

NICKELS AREN'T MY THING, BUT I SNAPPED UP THIS THIS 1937D 3-LEG 5C FOR REAL SHORT MONEY. GOT 61, THEN 62 TWICE FROM PCGS. I SAW 63, BUT MAYBE WISHFUL THINKING? ANY THOUGHTS FROM FOLKS WHO KNOW BUFFALOS?

Hi,

I'd probably go with 61 from the pic but could certainly be 62 in hand.

Strike looks a bit weak on the reverse even while allowing for the 4th leg's normal weakness.

Always a tough coin to grade. This also a big counterfeit coin, so for those not familiar, this coin clearly is genuine based on a few easy characteristics:

1- The back of the Chief's neck looks like he has a bad case of acne, (really die breakage)

2- below the beast's bad boy a series of dots, looks like he is taking a wiz

3 - the P in Pluribus an U in Unum separated from the back of the buffalo

Congrats on your find

Cheers !

Rich

One more thought on this coin's grading, because of the error, does the reverse get graded more strictly ? If so may be a few too many dings of the buff's front leg and face to get to a 63.
