Milk Spots on Silver Eagle

2 posts in this topic

Hello,

I have one of the 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle sets and the 2011-S Burnished Uncirculated coin has a couple of small milk spots on the obverse in the field. Is that something that NCS would be able to remove or minimize through conservation?

Thanks!

~Tom

Milk spots are an awful blemish that can be found on many modern silver coins. As unattractive as they can be, these kinds of spots can not typically be helped through conservation. These opaque white spots began life during the planchet stage of production prior being struck. This leads to their difficulty in removal. Other kinds of spots can appear as milk spots and frequently can be addressed in conservation, but true milk spots unfortunately can not be helped.
