Proof Grading

2 posts in this topic

I recently submitted a gold proof set and I am puzzled by the grading. One coin was graded as PF70 but the other three were graded PF69. Silly question, perhaps, but why were all coins from the same set not graded equally?

Thanks for the question. When the proof set is packaged at the mint each coin is struck and handled separately. As a result, some coins in the set may have tiny hairlines or other imperfections due to the mint's handling while others may not.
