Most Seated Liberty Halves of that period show doubling around the stars, but this was not the result of hub doubling. This doubling appears around the entire star and is not shifted in one direction, so it was the result of a shoulder around the design element to strengthen it and resist chipping or erosion. This shoulder should have been lapped away before the die was put into the press, but it was often not done.

 

Such coins are too common to be considered varieties. In any case, VAM numbers apply solely to Morgan and Peace Dollars.
