Die breaks value

7 posts in this topic

Some people collect coins with die breaks because they like them; some people collect coins with die breaks because they collect particular die states.

I'm not the second type of collector, but I don't know if either type of collector will pay a premium for a die break.

There are all kinds of die breaks that can occur on a Lincoln cent.

The most common, and in my opinion, only worth something to a bidiot are:

The central post which forms the inner loop of a letter or number breaks off and allows metal to flow into it.

Die cracks that begin at one of the corners of the Memorial and extend outward toward the rim.

However, any coin that has substantial metal displacement such as a cud, could be worth a little more or possibly worth keeping.
