Mars Cent Update by Electric Peak Collection

Abe could use a bath.

 

Back in November 2012 I posted a couple journals about the 1909 VDB cent that is part of a camera calibration target on the Curiosity outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed currently exploring Mars. For a photo taken shortly after the outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed arrived on Mars, see http://http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/JournalDetail.aspx?JournalEntryID=12493

 

In that photo you can see a few grains of fine Martian sand. The situation a little over a year later has changed a bit. And note that the cent is not facing up toward the Martian sky. It is actually close to vertical and the sand is stuck on, electrostatically I would guess. Enjoy, and happy collecting!

In my second post back on 11/29/12 about the Mars cent, i posted a wider image of the whole calibration target. In that image you can see that the target, including the cent, is more or less upright.
