Looking for a 1942 P Star War nickel or one with attractive toning

9 posts in this topic

Anyone out there have a 1942P MS67* silver Jefferson or know someone that does?

You may want to be a bit more clear. Do you want the "star" because of some color and eye appeal, or because of semi-PL surfaces? I think most of zboyle's probable "stars" are PL coins, not colorful coins.

Remember, the star is given to Business strike coins for two (very different) reasons. One for uncommon eye appeal (color, blazing luster), the other for nearly PL surfaces (usually have a lot of die polish lines, mirrored surfaces).

It's also possible that the star is given to a coin for both of the reasons...but there's no way to tell for sure -- only guesses based on the particular coin in question.

hm

Best of luck!

42-p is unlikely to be PL, i have a 42-s PL and a 43-s atar for being very close to PL.

I have also been working on a set of gem toned war nickels and do have some stars. but i am not in TN so i cannot confirm at this time, but i should be back tomorrow
