A Doctored Double Eagle (that didn't work out for the Doctor)...

But worked out for me!

 

Picked this up off of Heritage a few years ago as a PCGS graded MS 61. It was quite nice for the grade, but had some hazy substance or toning on it (you can see it in the photos below). I decided to visit my dealer with it and see what he thought, and said that someone may have greased the surface to hide hair lines, but he agreed that it may be undergraded (PCGS may have knocked it for the hazy surface). So I cracked it, applied some acetone to the surfaces, and it cleaned up. Submitted it Gold Rush to NGC and it came back what I thought it should grade-MS 62.

 

You can see the haziness below on the lower part of the obverse of the coin, attempting to hide hairlines (I suspect that someone wanted to get a 63 grade)
