A NEWP and a Little Info 1832 Bust Halves- 3 in a row

7 posts in this topic

Picked up this 1832 O-110 recently. Just an R1, but it links together with two of my other '32's. Minted 2nd in 1832, it uses Obverse 6 and Reverse H

Next that year, is the O-109 (R4) using Obverse 6 again and Reverse F

Then followed by O-107 (R2) using Obverse 5 and Reverse F once more

Nice CBH 's. 2, 3, 4 emission sequence. Was it your intention to pick up consecutive emission sequences or was this pick up something that "just happened"? I'm now searching through 126 CBH 's to see how many I have that may be consecutive emission sequences. Never thought of doing that just picking up Overton 's that I didn't have.

This post is likely only interesting to Bust Half Nuts. In my experience, only dedicated CBH collectors know about emission sequences.

Emission sequence is kinda fun. But just a curiosity to me. I'm not sure I understand buying in the order of sequence.

As for the year, aside from some oddities with chin/neck dots and laced lips, 1832 has one significant variety. The unique large letters reverse. It was the second to last die set used in the 1832 ('33 used two '32 dies).

The 101 LL variety is easy to spot. It has a large die break running through the left wing to where the tail meets the leaves. (The difference in letter size can be difficult to pick up at first. Look carefully).

Lance.

To answer your questions, John in AZ I sent you a PM (sorry, I think something happened to my original response). As for grades, 53-50-63

Carl, I have 11 '32s so it would just be coincidence that these fall in order and share dies. It is way to hard to target only one bust D/M and get it before going on to the next. And the O-110 just appeared at random, and happened to fit.

If you guys want more info on these coins (and others), poke around on my site. Remember, your browser security settings may block it or warn you so you may need to go though a warning. Will upgrade to get rid of that problem soon....

Lance, thanks for the info on the varieties. My LL reverse is out for re-holder right now and will be re-imaged when she returns...

Dave
