You Guys Seen This?

16 posts in this topic

I see this come up all the time but finally read it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200-000-unsearched-LOOSE-US-coin-TYPE-collection-Guarenteed-silver-/281154176772?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4176184704

Scroll down to the bottom where the 'rules' come in. Seller says only paypal collection? Can you even send 130 THOUSAND dollars over paypal? Can't view coins. Can't see coins. Can't meet person. Can't hire 3rd party to verify coins. Odd. Why would somebody who seems desperate to sell and wants big money refuse to negotiate and says "This is an internet transaction only.

I love ambiguous and obviously misleading listings. I wonder how close the distribution of coins will match the following scenario (which would in theory satisfy all of the elements of the description):

199,999 common date Jefferson Nickels (I'm being generous here) = $9,999.95

1 Morgan Dollar = $25.00

--------------------------

Total Value $10,024.95

You could add your own sprinkling of junk silver and low grade "numismatic grade" coins and still be well under $11k.

Well I looked back and this seller list all sorts of lots and uses same stock photo on it. Has this 200k lot. A 20lb lot. 10lb lot.

All are 'unsearched'----but yet he/she gives estimates on the value and composition of the coins.

The listing even says:

"Unsearched by me. I did not pick the coins to put in this lot so I have no idea what exact type of coins or dates are in the lot except my spot check for culls, holes, etc etc "

Two things.

1) So you know claim you have not even looked at coins and have 'no idea' the coins in this lot...but yet above you mention there are very few modern pennies, there are morgans and even make observations such as, "The silver will make up for the buffalos"

2) So you checked the coins for "culls, holes, etc" but I thought coins were unsearched?

Well why would you not spend 130k sight unseen. You can make "50x" profit!!! Take out mortgages out on your house guys! We need to buy this person out!

OMG. You're right! Now I need to determine what assests I need to liquidate in order to get rich quick! (shrug)

What is going to make me cry is if somebody buys this. I'm not even going to watch it anymore because IF it somebody buys it I'd rather not find out.

I have to watch it. Kind of like an accident on the freeway.

Let's see here, it's late and my brain is slowing down, so this may be very inaccurate.

The seller suggests you get 130 persons to invest $1,000.00 each, to make up the $130,000.00 to buy the lot. What's wrong with 1,300 buyers putting up $100.00 ea or even 2,600 buyers at $50.00 ea...or even 5,200 buyers at $25 bucks each!

Shoot, let's get 130,000 collectors to chip in $1.00 each and commence selling them on the 'Money Market' section of the boards.

How much return did he say there would be 'per coin' or for each dollar spent?
