grading on coin

2 posts in this topic

I recently sent some coins in for grading & one of the coins returned, an 1889 Morgan dollar (# 3703498-007) was listed as "unc details - reverse wheel mark". Can you explain this for me? I might suggest that when you provide grading other than the normal grades that a short explanation be provided.

Thank you.

Thanks for the question. A wheel mark is a (uusally) small patch of parallel hairlines, typically caused by a coin getting stuck in the wheel of a coin counting machine. This wheel scrapes a small area of the coin's surfaces before the coin is dislodged.
