1900 Indian Head - Unc Details/Altered Color

2 posts in this topic

Title says it all. I bought this as a project coin and I didn't pay much for it. I cracked it out and, with suggestions that I receive here, I'm hoping to help it out a bit. The pics don't show it but this coin has a ton of original luster.

Obverse looks stained.

Reverse looks like something was brushed onto the surface. Not sure what the Silver/White specks are.

Any hope for this one? If so, any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks - Mike

Generally, you cannot "undo" an alteration where the color has permanently stained the metal. Sometimes you can make these look a little better by soaking in water and then xylene for a few hours, then put it in a window sill for a few years to allow it to tone.
