Removing dirt from a problem-free coin

2 posts in this topic

Hi. I have 2 questions actually:

1) can/would you remove dirt from an NGC graded coin (AU half dollar, problem free)? Looks like just some black dirt that's in the crevices and between leaves, around the stars etc..

2) the coin is currently graded and problem free (by NGC). If I do send it to NCS to remove the dirt or have some work done on it, will NGC then put it back in the same holder? Or they would grade it again from the beginning? Is there a chance it will downgrade a point? Or suddenly go to a "details" holder after the conservation?

Thank you very much!

I appreciate the help.

Without seeing the coin I would not be able to comment on whether the conservation you request would be possible or not. We would, however, not do any work that would cause a coin to become improperly cleaned so if your coin is currently graded numerically it will be graded numerically after conservation. The coin will be graded new after the conservation.
