1776 continental curency coin

5 posts in this topic

Hello all-

Just started collecting coins recently and thought this might be a good resource for info. What brought me to post a new thread are two coins that I've come across. The one I'll mention here is a supposed 1776 continental curency coin that a gentlemen around here is selling. He's not a collector, and claims he found it one of his grandfather's drawers after he passed away. It looked different enough from the cast fakes I've seen to warrant some additional research. I'm sure I've seen only a fraction of the fakes out there thought. The pictures of the coin are below. What are your thoughts? Fake or the real deal?

Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum.

Stories like the one you were told are quite common and almost always made up. The coin looks to be a copy.
