I could see it in a 20.

Unless there is some strike issue with 1855-S half dollars, I don't see this as a VF. The surfaces don't look VF to me. I'd call it a Fine-12. Years ago it would have been a VG-10.

Here is how PCGS graded this example:

 

 

I've personally seen none better at this grade in the last several years.

It looks very strong for a 12. My guess would have been 15 before I saw it.
