Hi all i was wondering if any one can tell me if this coin is one of the overdates for 1822 as there seems to be something going on with the date but also there are some RP letters so not sure .. thanks

I just bought one of these in Choice UNC and while I don't have it in front if me, I recall the overdate was different than the marks on yours.

cheers for the reply .. i see overdates for 1820 and 1821 in my book

I don't think it is an overdate, but it does appear to have a recut date. Several of the letters are recut or repunched. I also see some possible machine doubling.

I have been able to find a 1822 0ver 1 type in the British museum

 

 

Have you notested the differences in the 2's

Not only the 2's, the 8's are very different between the two coins.
