I submitted a n 1835 half cent through a local dealer to NGC. This coin came back ungraded with the obverse damage box checked. There is a NGC label-1835 1/2 c OBV PLAN FLAW 1749350-003 included. The dealer was very unhappy and supprised this did not grade. Wouldn't this be a minting process?

Hi Phil,

 

An obverse planchet flaw is a component in the minting process, however, we will only holder this type of flaw as a mint error if large enough.
