1920 S Lincoln Wheat Penny

8 posts in this topic

The sharpness grade is EF, but unfortunately the surfaces have been cleaned and stripped of their original layer. As such much of the value as been taken from the piece.

Years ago I bought a set of Lincoln cents that had suffered the same fate. The perceived intent of the dealer(s) who had sold these coins to the collector had been to sell them to him as "red copper." The effect on the value of his collection was immense. Fortunately the 1922 Plain had been left alone, and it was an original surface EF with the strong reverse. That was the saving grace for the collection.
