Regrade process

2 posts in this topic

When an NGC encapsulted coin is sent in for regrade, is it cracked out of it's current holder, regraded as raw, and re-encapsulated, even if the grade doesn't change? Or do the graders see the coin in it's current holder and regrade based on the stated grade?

Thanks,

Andy,

Regrades are cracked out and submitted in bar-coded flips. The graders will raise grades from the previous assigned grades where we determine the coin(s) meet the criteria for the next grade. Of course, if the coin is lowered, which happens rarely (because submitters are looking for upgrades here and will generally submit solid to high end coins), and as long as it was submitted in its NGC holder, it is covered per the terms of our guarantee. Coins that you believe may be undergraded should be submitted using regrade services, while coins you believe may be overgraded are submitted using Appearance Review.
