Really nice Lincoln medal Bill.

What's the story on the Grant piece? I haven't seen one of those before

That Grant piece was issued after the General returned home from his around the world tour that he and Nellie took after Grant ended his presidency in 1877. It was issued during a visit / "campaign swing" that he made to Philadelphia. The piece was struck at the U.S. mint, and the dies were by George Morgan. It is listed in DeWitt / Sullivan as UGG 1880-2.

In 1880 Grant ran for the Elephant Party presidential nomination. Both he and Nellie missed the high office and wanted to go to the White House again for an unprecedented third term. At the Elephant Party convention the "stalwart" Elephant Party delegates supported Grant's nomination while the more reform minded (but not very reform minded) "Muck Wups" supported James G. Blain. (Blain was more or less owned by the railroad interests.) The convention deadlocked between the two, and ended up turning to dark horse candidate, James Garfield.

To push the thread a little further, here is a very common Garfield piece, JG 1880-7. This one shows up now and then in non-specialist dealers' "junk boxes."
