1796 Dollar FS @ Stack's Bowers

12 posts in this topic

I have consigned a 1796 Dollar with Stack's Bowers

for their Baltimore sale this November.

Although I loved the coin, it was an impulse purchase

and just doesn't fit into my collecting scheme.

The coin is in a newer PCGS 45 Edge View Holder and is

a B4, BB 61 and is an R 3. Die State 1 - with Small Date

and Large Letters.

The coin happens to be one of the better struck 1796's

I have seen and there are no adjustment marks. The

Obverse stars are fully brought up as are the Reverse

Eagle's feathers.

Here are recent images I had taken of this coin:

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, yes, it really is a nice coin.

Lighting plays a major part in one's

perception of a coin. The images I

posted are from ( I believe ) Mark Goodman.

A friend had them taken for me prior to

consigning the coin to Stack's Bowers.

For what it's worth, the coin is being

auctioned off with No Reserve. I have

found that coins with reserves set too high

( and believe me, I was tempted ) scare

off potential bidders. I'll be following the

sale very closely, not to worry.

Thanks, Coindude.

It was always my desire to have a few

18th Century US coins in my collection.

However, they really are not in my main

collecting interests, ie: Barbers or SLQ's.

So, although it was great owning the coin,

I am sure the next owner will realize just

how truly special this coin really is.

.....such a beautiful, beautiful coin. What a choice item that conjures up vivid images of our great Nation in it's youth. I hope to someday own an 18th century example....though it will be no where near that state. GLWS......GOD BLESS...

Thanks, Jim,

The auction is Thursday evening - and the bids are

arriving very slowly...

Its really a wonderful coin and deserves a place of

prominance in someone's collection.

Best of luck to all the potential bidders !!
