Heraldic Eagle reverse die question.

In this thread across the street, Mr.Feld put up two 1805's for comparison. While looking at the coins, I came across something I hadn't noticed before, although it might be well documented. On the first coin, the top feather of the right wing has a square tip, while the second one is pointed. On the second coin, the order is reversed. Is this common? I don't remember seeing any documentation noting the difference. I've included enlargements. Any information would be appreciated.
