Did the U.S. ever mint any gold coins? Why arent they in the USA type set? set.

No, the US mint has never produced any gold coins. Gold is really expensive, so the mint generally makes coins out of cheaper metals such as tin and lead. Occasionally they use plastic as well.

I agree the US Type set isn't a "complete" type set without gold. However there is a gold type set so you can do both.
