I have noticed that some National Parks Quarters are listed as "SMS". I know that there were some Special Mint Sets in the 1960's. Are these SMS NP quarters Special Mint Sets? What packaging did these come in? Thanks.

Thanks for the question. We designate coins from 2005 to 2010-dated Mint Sets SMS because they have a distinct appearance from the regular circulation issues. Although the sets are not officially called Special Mint Sets, the coins in them were specially prepared exclusively for the sets.
