India Ink

Hi,

I was considering purchasing a coin that had been museum marked on the obverse with India ink :o ... can NCS remove this, and if not, will it grade?

Thanks,

Wendy

While we may be able to remove the ink, we often would not. The ink will cause the surface to tone differently than the surrounding surface. The application of the ink often creates small scratches that will be readily apparent once the ink itself has been removed. Both of these factors lead to a "ghost" image of the museum number on the surface of the coin.
