Dipping Coins.

2 posts in this topic

I've recently accquired some obviously dipped MS early 19th century coins. Will NGC grade the coins even if they have been dipped? I personally don't consider dipping cleaning, because it doesn't really harm the coins' surfaces, just cleans the crud and nasty stuff off.

Proper dipping alone will not in any way exclude a coin from being graded. However, the state the coin was in PRIOR to the dipping might. An exception is copper coins, which if dipped in most dipping solutions, will not be graded because their color is changed to an unnatural appearance.
