1852 Braided Hair Lg Cent VF35, nice even brown $35

1809 Half Cent VF25 even chocolate brown $65

1828 Classic Head Half Cent 13 stars, nice color $70

1909 VDB VF35 $12

1911 P Lincoln ICG MS62 BN. Even chocolate brown with red glow around the devices and at the rims. Extremely well struck. I'd buy this raw as a 64BN any day. $33

1917 P Lincoln ICG MS63BN. Nice lighter caramel brown with considerable red for a brown designated coin. Nice luster. A tiny spec by the "7". A pretty coin. $30

1911 S F12 $40

1926 D G6 Rotated reverse $2

1927 P MS64 RB nice luster and look. $24

1931 D Lincoln Cent ICG MS64RD. Appropriately graded. This is a very underrated and scarce date in Mint State. While the original mintage may be five times that of the '31S, the population reports show that this date in 64RD and higher is five times as scarce as the '31S. With a PCGS Pop of just 196 in 64RD, and 171 higher (396 in ALL Mint State grades combined), this date should humble the '31S, which has a pop of 1187 in 64RD and 824 higher, with nearly 2200 graded in all mint state grades combined. Think there's a bunch out there raw, waiting to be graded? I seriously doubt it. Nice red coin with very few marks and good luster. Some faint freckling limiting the grade. Tough coin, with a PCGS priceguide listing @ $375 (the '31S lists @$400). $250

1933 D AU dipped, couple of hits on the cheek. Presentable look though, $13

1937P PCGS MS65RD $23 undergraded (9)

1937D PCGS MS66RD Superb Red Gem, shoulda 67ed. $49

1937 S Lincoln PCGS MS67 RD. We just made this coin at PCGS (May 2010). Truly deserving of the grade, and not just a number on a holder. A Heritage Archive search shows several closing over the past 12 months, with a range of $270- $750. This coin makes the best of those look like a 65. $400

DIMES

1820 F15 $60

1829 VF20 $65

1831 F15 $45

1833 VF20 $60

1860 O Seated Half Dime. Currently in a DGS holder graded AU58 with the notation "Cleaned and Retoned". Such a blunt assessment gives no credit to how special this coin appears to be. The strike, color, and luster are simply amazing. Searching through the Heritage archives and PCGS Coinfacts, this 1860 O has better eye appeal (IMO) than either the NGC 67* (Heritage) or the PCGS 67 (Coinfacts). Of course, pictures are no definitive substitute for in hand viewing, and while the two 67s may look better in hand, the offered example absolutely does. There are some hairlines on both sides, but if this were a proof of the same era, the grade would probably be 64. This coin looks to be, at the very least, mint state, and one of the first coins off the dies, surfaces appearing quite prooflike. Being that 1860 was a transitional year for the design, it isn't a long leap to the possibility that this is a presentation piece, cherished for generations by descendants of the recipient, and more recently, housed for many decades in a Wayte Raymond (?) album. Simply, one of the most appealing Half Dimes out there. $1500

1842 Seated Dime. DGS AU58 notated "Cleaned and Retoned". Looking like a long term companion to the 1860 O above, this 1842 has outstanding eye appeal. While the grade here may be accurate, the cleaning is very light and not detracting in the least. The outstanding eye appeal cannot be denied. Beautiful. $500

1841 O F15 $29

1845 F12 light cleaning $16

1853 arrows VF, bright center on obv, nice rim tone, rev grey/rose. $29

1890 Seated Dime NGC MS64. Nearly white and very lustrous, with but a hint of tone (images are a bit more pronounced). Well struck and clean for the grade, the "soft" area at "AM" on the obverse is a scuff on the holder, the legend is well defined. A very nice Type example. $370

1892 Barber, Yellow ANACS MS61. Looks better with some faint hairlines, brilliant white with attractive red rim tone on the obv. Nice unc dime. $150

1911 Barber, old small white ANACS MS61. Nice original coin, lightly toned centers with some crusty charcoal clinging to the edges. Looks more like 63. $150

1913 Barber, PCGS MS62. Fully brilliant and well struck, just a hint of vanilla. $155.

1914 Barber, NGC MS63. Lustrous, very well struck, and quite mark free for the grade. Some blue /gold/red/ yellow/green around the obverse periphery, with the reverse sporting an intense rainbow arc from 5:00 to 11:00 in neon gold/magenta/green. Original, unmessed with, and very pretty. $225

QUARTERS

1835 B-2, VF20 obverse, XF reverse, lightly cleaned. $125

1854 With Arrows XF 40, luster remains among the devices. A light cleaning, and mostly light silvery grey, but not unnaturally bright, with a hint of light gold/tan. $50

1873 arrows F15, original deeper grey w/ rose. $35

1877 S NGC MS61. Mostly brilliant, a bit of light secondary album tone at the upper obverse rim. Some scuffing and tics, commensurate with the grade, but confined mostly to the obverse, as well as some pimples resultant from rusted dies. A nice affordable example for Type. $360

1891 PCGS MS64. A gorgeous toned piece, with vivid seagreen at the rims, surrounding brilliant centers with splashes of coppery red around the devices. Well struck except for the stars from 10:00 to 4:00, and very mark free. No doubt desrves a plus. $1125 1891 PCGS62 Brilliant with some mottled charcoal amongst the obverse devices and over the reverse. $365

1896 P G6 $9

1895 O Barber quarter PCGS Genuine. Coded "94" for "altered Surfaces". When I first looked at this under fluorescent light, it was so glossy, I immediately thought, "oh, it's lacquered". However, after inspection under some reveals with a glass, I see absolutely no reason this did not grade AU58, and given a star ( if PCGS did such things) for eye appeal. A beautiful, lustrous and well struck better date. Priced @ MS60 bid. $290.

1897 P Barber Quarter PCGS MS62 Obverse a touch hazy in front of the portrait, brilliant reverse. $300

1916 D Barber PCGS 63 OGH Brilliant and Flashy, very nice, looks 64. $415

1917 Type 1 NGC XF45. Well detailed with no fading at the date. White, and most likely gently cleaned long ago, with an easily missed light reverse scratch. Lots of luster remains. $150

1917 D Type 1 MS62+ Full Head Brilliant $325

1926 D ANACS MS63. Old low 6 digit holder. Nice original piece with good luster. The head is better than many for this date, flatness only in central part. $185

1927 S SLQ G4, natural light silvery grey. $30

1929 P ANACS (old small white holder) Gorgeous original coin with vivid blue and gold rim tone, nice coin. $265

1930 P PCGS64FH Brilliant, nice coin $415

1932 S DGS AU50, "Lightly Cleaned". Mostly white, but not unnaturally bright, with a hint of lavender at the peripheries. While the obverse was cleaned a bit more enthusiastically than the reverse, it still retains a nice look, and considerable detail for the grade. Would fit nicely in an otherwise AU/BU set. $190

1934 P ANACS MS65. Early holder (880849), and accurately graded. Gorgeous original coin with great luster, and just the right hints of gold, amber and blue to say "never dipped". $90

1935 S NGC MS62. Fully brilliant and looks better, some light facial hairlines. $125

1937 P PCGS 64 Brilliant and very nice $55

1937 D ICG MS61. Harshly graded, should be a point better. One reeding mark on the forehead, faint hairlines on the neck and right obv field. $85

1939 D PCGS MS64 OGH. Some mottled tan here and there, mostly brilliant with good luster, obverse a touch baggy. $65

1940 S Washington ICG MS64 $40

1941 S Washington Quarter PCGS MS65, light bluish green/ golden russet radiating out from creamy centers. $75

1941 S PCGS 65 Vivid blue/gold/red obv rim tone, nice luster. $75

1941 D DGS MS63 Brilliant, nice $50

1942 S Washington ICG MS63 $95

1943 D PCGS MS63. Looks better, with a touch of mottled gold at the rim. Very original looking. $43

1945 P Washington PCGS MS65, some rim tone, hazy vanilla overall. $40

1946 P Washington PCGS MS65. Creamy overall, vivid golden russet on reverse rim from 12:00 to 6:00. $45

1954 S ICG MS65 Great mint set color, solid 66. $40

1955 D ICG MS64 Very clean, solid 65. $20

1956 P PCGS65 Gorgeous mint set coin, expected a 66. $45

1833 CBH ANACS AU50 (old holder, cert #469838). I like it for a "53". 1949 D ICG MS64 FBL. Original with some faint tan tone and some light splotches. Very Full Bell Lines. $75

1949 D NGC MS64. Brilliant. Hit on the lines precludes designation. $55

1949 P Franklin NGC MS63FBL. Brilliant w/ light gold rim tone on rev. One line of 4 reeding marks on Ben's jowl apparently the reason for the grade, looks better, with a great strike. The reverse is no question MS65. $70

1949 P Franklin ANACS (old) MS63. Brilliant with some reddish gold rim tone and nice luster. Bell lines are full, but not noted (too early?), MS64FBL quality. $62

1957 P NGC MS65 Mint set toner. $47

1957 P Franklin NGC MS65. Unquestionable mint set coin, with typical colors in blue/charcoal/tan/pinkish orange, particularly attractive on the obverse for this date. Very clean obverse with a few thin scratches on the bell limiting the grade. In an older, but not 1st gen., fat NGC holder. $47

1957 P Franklin PCGS MS65. Another typically toned example from a mint set, but lacking the haziness most frequently encountered. Very nice eye appeal. $47

1957 D Franklin PCGS MS65FBL. Typically toned (for this date) mint set example, with a hazy greyish/tan/blue patina over both sides, with bright orange highlights really jumping out with a slight tilt under a light. Very clean surfaces, with just a couple thin circular scratches on the upper bell limiting the grade. $52

DOLLARS

1796 Draped Bust, Small Eagle $1, Small Date, Large Letters, Bolender 4. This resides in a DGS VF20 holder, with the notation; "Cleaned and Retoned, Altered Surfaces". This coin looks to have been net graded from a VF35, with nearly all detail remaining. The cleaning has not left the usual plethora of hairlines that normally are seen on the great majority of coins from this era, including those holdered and graded by the top TPGs. The toning is a deeper grey, though pretty evenly distributed over both sides. As for the "altered surfaces", the graders were merely alluding to the lack of originality on the surfaces (their words), and, IMO, greatly overstating the extent of the cleaning. A great coin for Type, and with Greysheet Bid @ $4850 in VF(20), and @ $9000 in XF(40), a wonderful opportunity at $4250, delivered.

1925 S California Jubilee NGC MS62. Some mottled golden russet and blue at the rims, as often seen , attesting to the originality of this coin. I often wonder what common storage this may be attributed to. In his Commem book, QDB referred to some "leather pouches", not official issue, and I suspect these may be the source. Chromelike luster, with brilliant centers, and well struck. A few light slide marks on the obverse responsible for the grade. Very nice for the grade. $215

1936 York NGC MS66. Old fatty holder. A nearly mark free, originally toned example, with decent luster. The toning is an antique golden russet, medium in depth, and distrbuted evenly over both sides. It is obvious that this coin has never been dipped or messed with. $275
