Perth Mint Dragons - Different Varieties?

2 posts in this topic

Max,

We have some confusion out here among collectors who claim that the following Perth Mint coins are indistinguishable from each other (except for the packaging).

Description: AUSTRALIA

Category: WORLD COINS

Denomination: S$1

Year/Mint: 2012P AUSTRALIA

Variety: DRAGON BERLIN WORLD MONEY

Designation: MS

Total Graded: 6

Total Graded at MS 70: 1

Mintage: 5,000

Description: CHINA - PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC

Category: WORLD COINS

Denomination: S$1

Year/Mint: 2012P AUSTRALIA

Variety: YEAR OF THE DRAGON GREY-RED

Designation: MS

Total Graded: 109

Total Graded at MS 70: 27

Mintage: 20,000

Can NGC distinguish between these two coins? What is the difference between these Varieties? Collectors are claiming that there is no difference yet you are certifying them as different varieties. Could you investigate. Thanks

Thanks for the question. You are correct, these can only be distinguished by the packaging. We will only use the Berlin World Money Fair pedigree if the coins are received in that packaging.
