1916 (maybe) Standing Liberty Quarter - will this grade?

4 posts in this topic

My girlfriend found this in her pocket change! It's definitely a 1916 or 1917 Type 1. But the date is completely gone. Not sure if there are other factors NGC can use to tell if it's a 1916 or not. Either way - do you think this will grade? Holder as "genuine" maybe? Should I send it to PCGS for their ridiculous lowball sets?

Let me know what you think.

Pretty cool pocket change find. I think the SLQ guys will be able to tell you what year it is.

I remember a thread a few years ago about a coin that had similar wear as yours and they were able to tell the date from some markers. It seemed like it had to do with the folds in the robe. I'm curious to hear what they have to say.

Looks like a 1917 Type 1 to me. The biggest tell-tale signs being that the gown is separated from the foot, and that the rivets on the shield are too strong. Also, I'm pretty sure you can barely make out a "D" mint mark to the left of the gown -- so gotta be a 1917. At least, I think I see a "D"....
