Help grade my franklins..

7 posts in this topic

Bear with me as I'm trying to get my franklins photographed (and increasing my skill in that regard). What do you think these would grade at? They have a lot of cartwheel luster (not really shown in the pic's) and the '48 has a bit of color on Franklins Bust.. otherwise they are pretty white in color.

48-D MS64FBL

49-D MS65

These are my grades from the photographs. I feel as though I'm being liberal with the points though. I feel that if they were in hand I may grade them down at-least a half point, maybe a whole point each. The FBL stands, though.

48D - 64FBL - the scrape and dings kill the grade, although the obverse looks nice.

49D - 63 - the lack of luster hurts the grade, and the long scratch on the reverse kills it. Honestly, this one may be an UNC details, Scratched.

49S - AU-58. The discoloration on the cheek and jawbone indicate a trace of wear, combined with the muted luster in the fields.

the first one could be worthy of sending in, incase it gets 65

depending on what you got it for, etc.

i really like the look of that coin.

even the 1949-d looks borderline FBL, i dont really know or follow franklins, but ill bet it just barely misses FBL. that picture is darker than the others, maybe it is FBL in hand?

None of them are worth sending in. The 48D in 65FBL is about a hundred dollars, they are very common (and this one is not 65). The 49D misses FBL - look at the bottom set of lines to the left and right of the crack. They have significant weakness, more than would be accepted on a normally well struck date like this.
